Yes you are. The United States has signed the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, therefore the same copyright laws apply. 

However, as a US citizen you will also need to register your work with the Library of Congress to be able to receive statutory damages when your copyright is infringed upon in the United States.
